About the Speaker: This new and exciting course is taught by dynamic presenter and yoga instructor, Anne Buckley Reen, OTR, RYT. She is the author of the clinically popular S.A.N.E. Approach which she presented in a two day workshop for Transdisciplinary Workshops in May, 2006. Anne has spent the past 7 years using therapeutic yoga to address her clients goals with great success. She has implemented individualized classroom yoga programs in both regular education and special education settings. Her experience with implementing yoga at home and school programs is incorporated into this new 2 day course. Appropriate for the seasoned therapist, yoga instructor or motivated beginner, this course will inspire, energize and organize your approach to learning about and implementing therapeutic yoga with your clients. Anne also lectures nationally on topics related to development, sleep, nutrition and school based therapy techniques.

Course Description: This workshop introduces the clinician to  a balanced therapeutic yoga approach with modifications for various populations. Through experiential labs you will learn the physical, physiological, regulatory, emotional and sensory-motor benefits of Yoga for children with developmental challenges.  Learn the benefits and modifications for special populations. Use of Rhythm and Breath control will be emphasized to facilitate regulation and organization. A sequence of postures will be analyzed to highlight the therapeutic aspects of each. Neuro-physiological benefits will be described and enhanced by videotaped case studies.  Anne Buckley Reen is an experienced clinician and certified yoga instructor who shares the power of yoga therapy in this exciting and inspiring workshop.

Case studies will highlight the therapeutic benefits of the program with populations challenged by: Autism, PDD/anxiety disorder, LD and motor planning issues, ADD/ADHD, General developmental delays; Degenerative conditions.

Learning Objectives:Following completion of this course, participants will:

Have an understanding of the specific motor, sensory, biochemical and neuro- physiological benefits of a therapeutic yoga program.

Understand how, when and why to use yoga to address individual therapeutic goals.

Become familiar with a basic classroom yoga program.

Understand how to address self regulatory goals with specific yoga practices.

Implement a yoga program designed to build body awareness, motor planning and motor development.

Improve attention and self regulation via yogic breathing practices.

Enhance relatedness and develop circles of communication with yoga.

Understand how a basic yoga practice influences digestion, metabolism and elimination and enhances immune function.

Understand the use of yoga as a daily “sensory diet”.

Conference Size: This training is limited in size to 30 participants. Please sign up early to receive a confirmation.

Payment: Pre-registration is required. Fax and credit card registrations are not accepted, however, checks and purchase orders are. If you are using a purchase order, there is an additional $10 processing fee. Please send the P.O. with your registration form. Registration is by mail only.

About CEUs: Participants will receive a certificate for 12 clock hours. This program has been approved for 1.2 credits in Education from the University of Maine. Application has been made for 12 CEs in Psychology and in Speech/Language Pathology.

Time: Registration: 8:00; Program: 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. both days.
