Using the Collaborative Problem Solving Approach: A Workshop for Parents and Relatives of Challenging Children

Location: Hampton Inn, Freeport, ME

This intensive course is designed for parents of explosive noncompliant, chronically inflexible children who have either read Ross Greene’s book, The Explosive Child, or heard a lecture by Ross Greene, PhD, and are beginning to or currently using the Collaborative Problem Solving Approach. The course is limited to 30 participants.

Through a combination of lecture, role play, and specific case discussion, participants will increase their skills in the following areas:

* understanding meltdowns from a developmental perspective

* understanding the connection between meltdowns and lagging cognitive skills

* use of reflective listening or empathy between parents as well as from parent to child

* use of the specific steps involved in problem solving or Plan B

* how to maintain your role as parent without relying on Plan A

* increasing your skills parenting inflexible, black & white, rigid thinkers

* staying grounded in your approach with friends and relatives

* working together as a team
